Niseko’s closest major city is Sapporo (札幌) served by the New Chitose International Airport. From New Chitose, it is about a 2.5 hour ride by private car or coach, with Hirafu Welcome Centre as the common drop off point for coach arrivals.
Travellers can also take the scenic route by train to arrive at Kutchan, followed by a 15-minute car ride into Hirafu.
The Shinkansen (bullet train) from Tokyo to Hakodate is available with the extension to Sapporo currently under construction.

Lower Hirafu is arguably the most charming area in Niseko with the best izakayas, bars and night spots interspersed amongst the mix of architecture. Bar Gyu+, Niseko’s most iconic bar with its famous fridge door is just up the street.
